The Economics Department has initiated to conduct an interactive and informative session on the emerging possibilities of cryptocurrencies and its impact on the economy as a whole. The lecture was taken by Dr.Muhammad Shafi ,who is presently the Associate professor at NIT Calicut in School of Management Studies. He has completed his doctoral studies (Ph.D.) in Management from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in 2008.The session was attended by the final year students of Economics Department. The two-hour session was initiated by the department faculty with the aim to enlighten the students with the upcoming possibilities of the new form of currency that has been introduced in this age. The session began with welcome speech by Ms.Nithya K ,Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. The Session was Chaired by Dr Sunitha B Nair, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Department of Economics. The programme came to an end with some interrogations from the part of students followed by vote of thanks by Ms Sakkiya Ibrahim, Final Year B A Economics Student.

A debate competition was organized by the  department of Economics on 29th February 2024 on Kerala budget 2024 with the participation of all the three batches of economics department. The programme was organised by the Head of the Department Dr. Sunitha B. Nair with Student Faculty Council. The program was anchored by the the final year student of economics Ms.Jannath.The competition comprised of three teams representing each batch. All the three groups involved in the debate with utmost enthusiasm and all the competitive spirit. The competition was judged by the department faculties including  Dr. Sunitha B. Nair and Ms. Binila Mathews. The competition succeeded in enlightening the audience with the economic impacts that the current budget would have on its economy.The competition ended up in a tie among the first years and second years batch.The third years came up as the runner up of the competition. Members of the first year team were Gopika K., Amalraj and Adith Prakash and members of the second year team were Amal Michael, Mithun T. V. and Anjali Krishna. Prizes were awarded.

Keralappiravi day was celebrated in the department with cultural festivities and competitions. The Student Faculty Council was crucial in organizing the function. All students joined in with great happiness.

A memorable occasion was organized by the final year students of economics to celebrate teachers day on 5th September 2023 after the regular class hours. The session was splendid with music and solo performances by students for entertainment, games organized for teachers, where teachers were rewarded with chocolates for winning in the games and a cake cutting.The celebration was filled with memories ,fun games and happiness. The celebration included all the faculties of the Economics department and final year students.

A career counselling session on logistics was conducted by the Economics department to educate the final year students of economics on 31st July 2023.The session was intended to enlighten students with transferable skills like forecasting, general management, workflow optimization, communication, and interpersonal and problem-solving skills .The program provided an exposure for students who aim to pursue a career in logistics and management.

Department of Economics and Management Studies of Payyanur College jointly organised a dissemination workshop titled Seeking Ikigai: Envisioning a Holistic Education for final year BA students of both the departments. The session was conducted by Dr. Althaf S., Assistant Professor with School of Management Studies, National Institute of Technology, Calicut. The session was lively and much appreciated by all participants. Dr. V. M. Santhosh, principal of Payyanur College inaugurated the programme. Nithya K., faculty, Department of Economics and convenor of the programme welcomed the audience,Dr. Sunitha B. Nair, HoD, Department of Economics introduced the Speaker,  Dr. Vigi V. The Department of Economics, in association with College IQAC organised a Skill Development Workshop on Data Analysis using Excel on 14 March 2023. The Resource Person Dr. Anil Varma R., Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Zamorin's Guruvayoorappam College, Kozhikode gave the training to students at the computer lab. The programme gave one to one hands on training and equipped students to work with data for their final year projects.

The first lecture of the lecture series on the broad theme Researching in Economics: New Frontiers, as a part of the MoU between the Economics departments of Payyanur College, SN College and KMMG Women’s College was conducted on 27 February 2023. Dr. VIPIN P. VEETIL, Assistant Professor in Economics, IIM Calicut delivered the lecture on the topic “What Causes Inflation: Some Counter Intuitive Insights of the Quantity Theory of Money”. The second lecture of the lecture series on the broad theme Researching in Economics: New Frontiers as a part of the MoU between the Economics departments of Payyanur College, SN College and KMMG Women’s College was conducted on 15 March 2023. Dr. Nirmal Roy V. P. Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Kannur University, delivered the lecture on the topic Data as Public Good. A department outreach programme was conducted for the Humanities stream students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Payyanur on 14th  February 2023. Ms. Binila Mathews, HoD of Department of Economics; and Muhammed Sinan and Anagha Ajith, students of III DC Economics spoke about the subject, courses offered in the UG program, opportunities that lie ahead for Economics graduates and motivated them for higher studies.

Arun Harshan, a certified Investment Banking Operations professional, spoke on the career tips in investment banking.

An extension activity titled “Entrepreneurship Development through Mushroom Cultivation” was conducted by the department for NSS Volunteers of the College, who camped at Mahakavi Kuttamath Smaraka High School, Timiri on 27th December, 2022. The class was handled by Dr. M. Govindan, Retired Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Padnekkad. The lecture dealt with various entrepreneurial opportunities in the field of agriculture, with special emphasis on mushroom cultivation.

In connection with Kerala government's anti - drug campaign, the Economics Department organised a college level debate competition titled "Say No to drugs". In the program held on Thursday, December 15 at the college garden, Malavika and Riya Haniyya Hanif of English department secured first prize; Safan and Rajath of Department of BBA; and Abhinand and Sreeshwar Hriday, Department of Physics won the second prize.

A Hands on Workshop on the topic “Taking Pride in Economics: Opportunities Ahead" was organised by the Department of the Economics on 9th December 2022. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Hari Kurup K. K., retired principal of Kasaragod Government College, who gave guidance on career opportunities in Government and Corporate sectors after studying economics, as well as research opportunities in India and abroad.

An Exhibition named Freedom@75 Expo was hosted by Payyanur College in association with IQAC, and departments of Chemistry, Economics, History and the College Library on 10 August 2022.   The exhibition showcased live spinning by Payyanur Firka Khadi Gramodyog Sangh, books on Indian independence by Central Library, photographs of Gandhi and freedom struggle, old coins and stamps, home and agricultural equipments from the past, much talked about cartoons of R. K. Shankar, Vikram Varma, Ahmed and remnants of mud pots from megalithic age. Students from four schools near the College participated in the exhibition. The program was inaugurated by Sri. K. Ramachandran master, President, PES and son of freedom fighter Sri. Kannoth Kunhiraman Nair.
