On 21/02/24 I BSc Botany student Shyamal got 15000Rs as scholarship from our alumni Abdul Hakeem 1995-97 (Pree Degree Batch) and Sajina Sudeer 1997-2000 Bsc Botany.
PG Department of Botany, Payyanur College, organized a programme entitled ‘We Care We share' (Botany Toppers' Recognition and Alumni Aid Ceremony) on November 6, 2023 at 9:30am. A significant aspect of the programme was the distribution of alumni scholarships to deserving and needy students. These scholarships provided financial assistance to students, helping them pursue their education without financial constraints. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K.M. Khaleel, Principal, Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies and he also presented mementos to the students, who excelled in their Kannur University PG and UG examinations. The distribution of Alumni aid was done by Sri. K. Ramachandran Master, President, Payyanur Education Society. Three PG and two UG students became recipients of the scholarships. Dr. Ratheesh Narayanan M.K., HOD of Botany and also an alumnus of the Department was honored in the function for his achievement in obtaining P.J. Thomas Endowment Award for Best Teacher during the year 2023.
In addition to the scholarships, the Botany alumni made another significant contribution by distributing 4 laptops to students. Laptops were purchased by summing up the generous contributions made by various alumni members. The laptops were aimed at enhancing students’ educational experience and facilitating their learning in Bioinformatics. The students who received these laptops also expressed their gratitude for the valuable gift.
On October 27, 2023, PG Deparatment of Botany organized an interactive session with eminent alumnus, Dr. Balakrishnan P, Former HOD and Associate Professor, PRNSS College, Mattanur. He shared his research experiences in the field of botany, which mainly focused on providing practical knowledge in staining of specimens. He also motivated the students and also promised to conduct hands on training workshop in fungal staining.
On October 13, 2023, PG Department of Botany organized an interactive session with two esteemed alumni of our department. Ms. Athira Unnikrishnan and Ms. Aswathi Narayanan (2015-18 Batch) shared their experiences of their college life. Moreover, they also shared several tips and tricks to crack CSIR NET Examination. The session was really insightful for the students.
On 12th October, 2023, P.G. Department of Botany, Payyanur College organized a talk on ‘Ethics in scientific career' which aimed at educating the students about the importance of ethics in the scientific realm. The session was handled by our esteemed alumna of 2011-14 Batch Mrs. Aswathi N V, Research Scholar, Central University of Kerala. She shared insights about the ethical considerations necessary for a successful scientific career
On 15th of September 2023, P.G. Department of Botany, Payyanur College, Payyanur, collaborated with the Zoology Department and Serah to organize an enlightening session at 10:30 am entitled "GUIDANCE TO PG ENTRANCE." The event featured Mr. Sidharth S Nair (Second rank holder in MSc Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology, Madras Christian College, Our Alumni member of 2017-20 Batch and Research scholar of the Department of Botany). The primary objective of the program was to provide valuable insights into the competitive exams that students could undertake to secure admission into various prestigious national-level universities.
On September 5, 2023, Botany Department had the privilege of hosting an interactive session with one of the esteemed alumnus, Mr Shiju M P, from the 1997-2000 Batch. Mr Shiju, now a Senior Medical Microbiologist in MIMS hospital Kannur, generously shared his methodological insights into microbiology research with our current students.
Ms. Archana Balakrishnan, a distinguished alumna of the Botany Department (2017-20 Batch), has recently achieved success by clearing the CSIR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination. Her remarkable dedication to botany during her time with us has paved the way for this prestigious accomplishment. An interactive session with Archana Balakrishnan was organized on 11/08/2023 at 12pm. It was an opportunity for the students to learn from her experiences, gain insights into academic and research pursuits and explore potential paths in the field.
Dr. Babu Valliyodan, Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology and Genomics in Lincoln University, USA interacted with students of PG Department of Botany, Payyanur College, Payyanur on 9/11/2022. The interaction enhanced research interests in students and explored the possibilities and job prospects that Bioinformatics can offer. Dr. Babu Valliyodan, who is also an alumnus of Payyanur College remembered his days at college fondly and acknowledged that teachers who taught him here had a great role in his growth
On February 28, 2022 (National Science Day), an auspicious event was organized at Payyanur College, marking the official inauguration of the new-generation course in Plant Science with Bioinformatics. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Kunhikannan, Director of the Forest and Tea Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, who himself is an alumnus of the Botany department from the 1982-85 Batch. Furthermore, the event paid tribute to Dr. Ratheesh Narayanan M.K., Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, who is also an alumnus of the department from the 1991-94 batch. Dr. Ratheesh's contributions to the college, leading it to receive the coveted Haritha College award from the Kerala government, were acknowledged and celebrated, reaffirming the department's commitment to excellence and growth.
