Department of Hindi, Payyannur College marked Teacher's Day with a vibrant celebration. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. V M Ramani, a former faculty member of the department. Dr. Ramani was honored for her significant contributions and shared invaluable insights on teaching and student-teacher interactions.
A unique highlight of the day was the student-led teaching initiative. Fifth-semester undergraduate students took charge of regular classes for their juniors. Malavika M, Haritha Krishnan, Aparna Raj, Shikha P, and Arya K skillfully guided the younger students, creating a heartwarming and enriching academic experience.
The celebration also included a series of student-organized programmes, showcasing their talents and creativity. The event served as a platform for students to express gratitude to their teachers and to gain valuable teaching experience. Overall, Teacher's Day at the department was a resounding success, fostering a spirit of learning, appreciation, and community.
On 16 Aug 2024 the Department of Hindi felicitated the students who secured University Level Positions in BA Hindi and BA Functional Hindi Examinations 2024. Dr. P Balakrishnan inaugurated the Felicitation Ceremony. Varun K and Fatimatul Safa (BA Hindi 2nd and 3rd Ranks), Arya M, Nandana K and Athena K (BA Functional Hindi 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ranks) received mementos from the Chief Guest Dr. P. Balakrishnan. Later, he spoke on the Changing Trends in Hindi Language and its opportunities. Dr. Sindhu A presided over the function, Dr. N. M. Sreekanth gave the welcome speech and Dr. Surekha T. V. delivered the vote of thanks.
Various programs were organized as part of the Independence Day Celebrations 2024 under the auspices of the Department of Hindi. Hindi Patriotic Song Competition, involving all the departments of the college and Hindi Patriotic Poetry Recitation Competition for the Students of the Hindi department were organized on 16 Aug 2024 at 1.30 pm. Students actively participated in the programs. In the Hindi Patriotic Song Competition, the first position was won by the English Department and the second position was won by the Physics Department. Dr. P. Balakrishnan, Former Principal and HoD of the Hindi Department distributed the prizes to the winners.
The Basheer Memorial Day was celebrated on July 5th, and the Hindi Department organized a program to commemorate the occasion. The program included a discussion on Basheer's first novel, 'Balyakalasakhi', and its significance in Malayalam literature. The students and teachers actively participated in the discussion, which was led by Amal Mohan, a third-year Hindi student who introduced the novel and moderated the discussion. The program was held at the Hindi Library Hall, and the third-year Hindi students, Shikha K V and Thejasree M, extended a warm welcome and expressed their gratitude. The program was a grand success, marking the 80th anniversary of 'Balyakalasakhi'."
An Orientation for New Students and their parents was conducted at the Department Hindi Hall on 1/07/2024. The focus was to enrich the students and their parents about the FYUG Programme initiated by the Govt. of Kerala at Higher Education level in the Universities and Colleges in Kerala. Dr. Sindhu A, HoD, Dept. of Hindi, gave the welcome speech and FYUGP Dept. Level Coordinator Dr. Sreemaya explained about the FYUG Programme and cleared the queries of the Parents and Students.
The department observed Reading Day on 26.06.2024 at 10.30 pm in the Hindi Library Hall by organising a book discussion and book introduction. Final year functional Hindi student, introduced the Malayalam novel, 'Verukal' by Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. Then the students noted down their comments on the book and shared their reading experiences as well. Welcome address section. Aditya Nandi, a final year student delivered vote of thanks.On that day, the follow-up activities of the Department Student Library were carried out under the leadership of the students. Categorization and entry of almost 200 books received at the department library as donations from teachers and students were done. The department was able to committedly engage the students with books as a part of National Reading Day.
Under the auspices of various language departments of Payyanur College, a screening of Babu Kambrath's film, "Mother Bird" and a discussion followed by the same were held on 05.06.24. Mr. P. Premachandran spoke about the film in detail in the Programme held at Hindi hall. Students actively participated in the discussion followed. Dr. A. C. Sreehari, HoD of English chaired the session. Dr. Sindhu A, HoD, Department of Hindi, welcomed the gathering and Ms. Anila O., HoD of Malayalam Dept. gathered vote of thanks.
An online class was organized on the topic, "Hindi Fiction and Women Writers," on 29/5/2024. The session was handled by Dr. Jeena Mary Jose, Faculty, Department of Hindi, Muvattupuzha Nirmala College. Dr. Vishnu Thankappan delivered the welcome address and third year functional Hindi student, Arya K. Thanked everyone.
Students of the Department organized Sendoff Party on 27/05/2024 for the outgoing 2021-24 Batch of BA Hindi and BA Functional Hindi Students. The Outgoing students shared their experience in the College and the Department.
The University Toppers of the Department were facilitated by the Department on 01/03/2024. The Chief Guest Principal Dr. Santhosh V M graced the occasion with his presence and presented the mementos to the Toppers. The Faculty members and the dept. students witnessed the occasion with great inspiration.
One Day National Workshop on Official Language Hindi was oraganised in collaboration with Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd., Govt. of India, on 28/02/2024. The Workshop was inaugurated by the College Principal Dr. Santhosh V M. K. K. Ramachandran, Dy. Director (OL) (retd.), Income Tax Dept. Kochi, P. K. Padmanabhan, (retd.) Senior Manager (retd.), BPCL, Coimbatore and O. Ramesh, Chief Manager (HR/OL), HOCL, Kochi, handled the sessions on various aspects of Official Language Hindi and its opportunities. The students of the dept. shared their thoughts and cleared their queries about official Language Hindi. Dr. Sindhu A, HoD, Chaired the workshop sessions.
Department of Hindi celebrated Christmas and New Year on 22/12/2023 as the college was going to close for the Christmas Vacation. Students and Faculties celebrated the function by cutting cake and exchanging gifts.
On the occasion of Sri. Anandatheertha’s, Kerala- Social Reformer- last disciple of Sree Narayana Guru, Birth Anniversary the Students and faculty members of the Dept. visited the Anandatheertha Ashramam on 21/11/23 and also attended the Talk on Sri. Anandatheertha by Prof. Sunil P Illayidam. Later visited the Sanjayan Smaraka Library at Payyanur. It was a great learning experience for both the Faculties and Students
To cater to the research interests of Research scholars and degree students, a class on Research Aptitude and Methodology was conducted on 08/11/2023. Dr. V. K. Subramanian, Professor, University of Calicut, engaged the class. The Welcome note was delivered by Dr. Mini A R and Surekha T V thanked the audience.
On 8/11/2023 at Hindi Hall a lecture was organized on the topic, " Kavita mein Prakriti." Prof. Pramod Kovappurath, Hindi Department, Calicut University spoke on the topic. Ms. Sreemaya C. welcomed the audience and Varun K, a 3rd year Hindi student, delivered a Vote of Thanks.
Fresher’s Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Hindi welcoming 2023 Hindi & Functional Hindi batch on 27/10/2023. The students of the Dept. organized various Programmes for the Freshers. It was an Ice breaking Programme for the First Year Students
National Hindi Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Hindi. The Fortnight celebration was inaugurated by Prof. Unnikrishnan K. V. (Former HoD, Dept. of Hindi, Payyanur College, Payyanur) on 15/09/2023. The Fortnight celebration proceeded with a talk by Dr. Seema Chandran, Assistant Professor, Central University of Kerala on the topic ‘Hindi Bhasha aur Jeevan Kaushal’ on 18/09/2023. The Dept. also conducted an Elocution Competition and a Recitation Competition at the school level. Students from various schools nearby participated in the competition which was Sponsored by the Federal Bank, Payyanur.
Teachers' Day is celebrated on the 5th of September annually, honoring the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Independent India’s second President and a renowned scholar. Dept. of Hindi Celebrated Teachers’ Day as Aaj Hum Paddhayenge: Student Masters, in which advanced learners of the final year Hindi and Functional Hindi students of the dept. were given the opportunity to take classes. Students showed great passion and interest in engaging classes. Teachers of the concerned papers were also present in the class to monitor the proceedings and also gave their feedback about the class.
As the year marks the end of the 75th Independence Day, which was being celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsam, the Dept. of Hindi Celebrated by conducting a College Level Patriotic Song. Students from various Departments of the college actively participated in the programme. Sri. Rukkinudheen A. P. was the Judge for the competition held on 14/08/2023.
Dr. Supriya P, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Hindi, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod, Kerala, was the Chief Guest and Resource Person for the Premchand Jayanti Celebration-2023 held at the Dept. of Hindi, Payyanur College, Payyanur on 02-08-2023. She delivered a talk on Premchand Sahitya Mein Stree. She stood her argument by connecting Premchand’ Literary works focusing on the Stories that he has written. Students participated in the discussions held thereafter. They raised some concern which they felt while reading Premchand’ literary works. It was a great learning Experience for the as they got an insight about the legendary writer and his literary works
Broader changes in society have driven some of the greater recognition of LGBT rights, such as more equitable relations between genders, the rights revolution generally and the greater respect for individual. LGBT+ Pride Day was Celebrated on 27/06/2023 by Language Departments in Association with NSS Unit 10, Payyanur College, Payyanur. Rtn. Vijayarajamallika, Writer cum Activist, was invited as Chief Guest for the programme. Principal Dr. V. M. Santhosh, Dr. Surekha T. V. (Coordinator, NSS Unit 10, Payyanur College), Dr. Sindhu A. (HoD, Hindi Dept.), Dr. A. C. Sreehari (HoD, English Dept.), and Dr. Lakshmi C. (HoD, Sanskrit Dept.) addressed the audience present during the programme. Students raised many concern about the LGBT+ community which was addressed by Rtn. Vijayarajamallika.
National Reading Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Hindi on 22/06/2023. Reading being an essential part of academic progress and wellbeing, students were introduced to a new world where Jalaja Rajeev ‘Angane yangane’ (Malayalam Novel, plot dealing with Payyanur and its people) was discussed and reviewed during the session. Jalaja Rajeev an Alumni of the Department of Hindi expressed her views on being a writer. The Book was introduced to the students by the well-known Malayalam critic Dr. Nishi George. Dr. A. C. Sreehari, poet & writer, also gave his thoughts on the Novel. Students also actively participated in the discussion. Teachers and Students from Malayalam and English Department were also present for the Programme.
