PROGRAMMES ORGANIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Payyanur College Department of Political Science organized a workshop on Research Methodology on 31-05-2022 from 7 PM to 8.30 PM. The program was inaugurated and the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sabu Thomas, Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calicut. Dr. Dinesan D.A made welcome address and Dr. Santosh V. M., the College Principal, presided over the event. Dr. Swaran P, the IQAC Convener, extended his greetings, and Dr. Ajithkumar expressed the vote of thanks. Separate sessions were conducted by Dr. Sudheesh K M and Dr. Ajithkumar P, while the vote of thanks was delivered by third year student Kumari Insha Zainaba, Total of 66 number consist of teachers and students from different departments of the college participated in the program.

LECTURE ON INDIAN AND AMERICAN JUDICIAL SYSTEM

The Department of Political Science and IQAC, Payyanur College organised a special lecture on Indian and American Judicial System by Surendran K Pattel , District Judge, Texas District Court, UDA on 04, April 2023. He spoke about the key features of judicial systems of both cointrires. Moreover, he shared his personal experience and interacted with students. Dr.Santhosh V M, Principal, Payyanur College made presidential address.
Dr Dinesan D A, Head of the Department made welcome address.Dr V V Kunjabu, Prof P C Premavally, Dr P. R Swaran expressed their feliciatation address. Dr Ajith Kumar , Assistant professor Department of Political science made vote of thanks. Around 65 participants benefitted the programme.

INDIA AS AN IDEA @ 73

The Department of Political Science & Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Payyanur College, Payyanur, jointly organised an Invited Lecture in connection with Republic Day Celebrations on 25th January 2023 between 11.30 and 2.30 at Payyanur College Seminar Hall. Prof. (Dr.) Santhosh V.M., Principal, formally inaugurated the seminar. Dr Arun Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Kerala & Former Associate Executive Editor, 24 News Channel delivered lecture on the topic India as an Idea @73. Dr Arun Kumar said that India is not state alone; it is also an idea. Both as a state and an idea, it is evolving. He equated India with half stitched cotton. He argued that idea of India is rooted in, what Ambedkar called, Union of Trinity, i.e., liberty, equality and fraternity. Dr Dinesan D.A., Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Political Science, presided over the function. Dr Ajithkumar, Assistant Professor of Political Science, felicitated on the occasion. Dr Sudheesh K.M., Assistant Professor of Political Science, welcomed the gathering and Dr Swaran P.R., Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, expressed vote of thanks.

The Department of Political Science and IQAC, Payyanur College organised a special talk in connection with Republic Day celebrations on January 25, 2023 via Google Meet at 7 pm. The topic of the Special talk was ‘Democracy in the Neo-Liberal Era: Indian Experiences’ . The central idea of the lecture is to facilitate debates and discussions on issues in Indian Democracy particularly after 1991. Dr.Sebastian N, Assistant Professor, Department of International Relations, Sikkim Central University was the key speaker of the special talk. He spoke about how the Neo liberal policies affect the Indian democratic system and changing nature of democratic values. Dr.Santhosh V M, Principal, Payyanur College inaugurated the programme. Dr Dinesan D A, Head of the Department made presidential address. Dr. Shyna. V V Assistant Professor made welcome address and Dr. P. R .Swaran Coordinator, IQUAC expressed vote of thanks in programme. The students from the department and International Relations, Sikkim Central University participated in the online special talk. After the talk the discussion continued for half an hour and wind-up on 9 pm. Around 82 participants benefitted the programme.

Department of Political Science, Payyanur College, in association with IQAC, Organised One day Workshop on Research Methodology on 18/01/2023. Dr. Devaraj P I, Assistant Professor of Phylosophy, Sree Shankaracharya University, Payyanur Region, inaugurated the program. Dr.Santhosh V M, the Principal, Payyanur College, made presidential speech. Sri. Prasanth M., Librarian, University of Calicut, made special talk on the topic of ‘Research Reports: Components & Writing’ in the workshop. Dr. Dinesan D.A, Asst. Prof. & HOD, Department of Political Science, Payyanur College , Dr. Ganesan D.A, Asst. Prof. & HOD, Department of Political Science, EKNM Government College, Elayirithattu, Dr. Ajith Kumar, Asst. Prof. of Political Science & Coordinator, Dr. Sudheesh K. M. Asst Prof. of Political Science, Dr. Shyna V. V, Asst Prof. of Political Science, Jithin M, Secretary, Political Science Association, Nandana Raj, 3rd BA Political Science delivered speech in the workshop.The program started at 10 am and continued till 3.30 pm. The students of Political Science were the beneficiaries of the programme.

Social Science Forum, Payyanur College, Payyanur, with the financial assistance from Institute of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Kerala, organised One Day National Seminar on 75 Years of India’s Democratic Experience on the 29th November 2022. The seminar was formally inaugurated by the Hon. Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly, Sri. M. Vijin. Prof. (Dr.) Santhosh V.M., Principal, presided over the inaugural function. Prof. Shaji Varkey, former Professor & Head Department of Political Science and former Dean of Social Sciences, University of Kerala, delivered key note address. Dr Swaran P.R., Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Sri. Dileepan K.M., Head, Department of History, Ms Binila Mathews, Head, Department of Economics facilitated on the occasion. Prof. Rajaram Tholppady, former Director of Department of Political Science, University of Mangalore, Sri Shamseer P.K., Research Scholar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, handled different technical sessions. Dr Sudheesh K.M., Coordinator of the Seminar, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Ajith Kumar P., Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science, expressed vote of thanks.

Political Science Dept of Payyanur college Conducted the First session of Payyanur College Model United Nations(PCMUN) on 5th November, 2022 Friday from 9.00 to 5.00 at the college Seminar Hall. Our Committee was Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) (General Assembly – III) discussing the Agenda Refugee Crisis, Migration and Border Security. College Principal Dr Santhosh V M, Political Science Dept Head Dr Dinesan D A, Asst. Prof Dr Ajith Kumar attended the Committee as Observers. The Committee was chaired by Sana Fathima (Secretary General), Insha Zainaba (Vice Chair, Director General) and Brinda K Naveen (Rapetour). The Committee was concluded by passing the resolution 1.1 by Consensus.

The Department of Political Science and IQAC of Payyanur College, Payyanur, in collaboration with the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Kerala organised a One Day National Webinar on “DEMOCRACY AND DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA: 75 YEARS OF
EXPEREINCE” on 11th August 2022 as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Dr Biveesh U.C.
(Director General, Institute of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of Kerala) inaugurated the Webinar. Dr Biju B L, Associate Professor of University of Hyderabad, presented a paper on “Democracy and Development in India: 75 Year of Experience”. Prof. (Dr) Santhosh V.M., Principal of Payyanur College, presided over the function. Dr Dinesan D.A., Head of the Department of Political Science, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Dr P.R. Swaran, IQAC Coordinator,
and Dr Pramod Vellachal, Member, Syndicate, Kannur University, offered felicitation. Dr Sudheesh K.M. proposed vote of thanks.

Constitutional Day Celebrated

Department of Political Science, Payyanur College & FDJS Payyanur College in association with Department of Political Science, EKNM Government College, Elerithattu Celebrated Constitutional Day on 26/11/2022 in Online Mode. The Program started at10 am. Dr.Santhosh.V.M principal, Payyanur College made presidential address, Dr. Biveesh U C Director General of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Kerala inaugurated the program. Dr. Dinesan D A Head of Political Science Payyanur College Made welcome speech, Dr. Ganesan D A Head of Political Science, EKNM Government College made special address on the session. Dr. Sudheesh K M expressed vote of thanks for the program. Insha Zinaba, Sana Fatima, Fathimath Jannath T N, Amal K V, Vrinda M V, Aswathi Krishna, Uthara C.P presented their papers In the various sessions. The Program continued till 12.30 pm.
