Tharangam 25, the annual Physics Fest, was held on07/02/2025 at Department of Physics. The event was a grand celebration of physics, showcasing the creativity, innovation, and talent of students. The fest was a huge success, attracting a large crowd of students, teachers, and physics enthusiasts. The fest was inaugurated by Former ISRO Director Dr. P Kunhikrishnan. Exhibition: The exhibition was a highlight of the fest, featuring over 35 innovative projects and models that demonstrated various physics concepts. Students from various schools and colleges displayed their creations, which included working models of robots, solar cars, and wind turbines. The exhibition was a great platform for students to showcase their creativity and understanding of physics concepts. Games: The games section was another popular attraction at the fest. Students participated in various physics-based games, such as the "Bridge Building Challenge," "Marble Run," and "Physics Treasure Hunt." These games not only tested students' knowledge of physics but also promoted teamwork and problem-solving skills. Food Stall: The food stall was a big hit among the participants, offering a variety of delicious and affordable food options. From snacks to meals, the food stall catered to the diverse tastes of the attendees. Quiz: The quiz competition was a thrilling event that tested students' knowledge of physics. The competition was fierce, with teams from various schools and colleges participating. The quiz was conducted in two rounds, with the final round being a nail-biting finish. Conclusion: Tharangam 25 was a resounding success, with over 500 participants attending the event. The fest provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity, innovation, and talent in physics. An Institutional Visit for the Students in the final year of Master of Science in Physics Degree 2023-2025 batch was conducted on the 13^th  of Navember 2024,as Prescribed in the curriculum. The IV was organized by the Department of Physics, Payyanur College. The IV group consisted of 14 students and 2 faculty member . Central University of kerala, a very prestigious university in India, which has been providing wide opportunities providing students pursuing  scientific and various fields. The Physics Department at Central University of Kerala (CUK) is a vibrant hub for scientific inquiry and innovation, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Established in 2010, the department focuses on theoretical and experimental research in cutting-edge areas like Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, and Astrophysics. The faculty comprises renowned experts in their fields, guiding students through rigorous coursework, projects, and research collaborations. The department's research output includes publications in top-tier journals and presentations at international conferences.

A team of 29 students and two Faculty members visited Keltron on 12/11/2024 as a part of IV for PG students.The purpose of this visit to Keltron, Kannur, was to gain insights into the manufacturing processes for capacitors and resistors, two essential components in electronics. We aimed to understand the production techniques, quality control measures, and applications of these components in electronic circuits. Keltron is a government-owned electronics company based in Kerala, focusing on producing components such as capacitors and resistors. These products are essential in various electronic devices, providing critical functions in controlling current, filtering signals, and storing energy. Keltron’s manufacturing operations contribute significantly to the electronics supply chain in India.

The Department of Physics and Chemistry hosted an enlightening interaction session with distinguished alumni Dr. Murukeshan V M, Associate professor, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Dr. Sudhakaran V , Manager, Server platform Development R & D , USA on 01/10/2024 at M Sc physics Class room. The session began with with the Welcome address by Smt. Sruthi K P, HoD of Chemistry and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sreejith E K, Asst. Professor of Physics. The event aimed to inspire current students by sharing the experiences and insights of successful graduates from the department. Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to hear directly from successful alumni and valued the practical advice shared. Alumni enjoyed reconnecting with the department and were impressed by the engagement and enthusiasm of current students.

PIONEERS -An interactive session with Alumni was conducted on September 9, 2024 at 2: 30 pm in the MSc Physics Hall.  The objective of this programme was to facilitate an inspiring interaction between the university topper, Athira A and current students as part of the alumni program.  After the formal introductory session Miss. Athira A interacted with our students. Athira shared her academic background, challenges faced, and key factors contributing to her success. Students engaged in a lively Q&A session, seeking guidance on time management, career aspirations, and overcoming obstacles. Athira emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and seeking mentorship.  Students appreciated the opportunity to connect with Athira and gain valuable insights.  The program was a resounding success, providing a platform for students to learn from Athira's experiences and gain valuable insights. The alumni program aims to continue organizing such events, fostering a sense of community and connection between current students and successful alumni. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Keerthana, II Semester PG student.

The Physics Department at Payyanur College organized an interactive session with its alumni on 6/9/2024 to bridge the gap between past and present, gain insights into career trajectories, and strengthen the network within the academic community. This event aimed to facilitate meaningful exchanges between current students and alumni, offering valuable guidance and fostering professional connections. The event began with a welcome address by the Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Prakash V. The Head emphasized the importance of alumni engagement and the value of learning from the experiences of former students who have ventured into diverse fields. The interaction with alumni of the Physics Department Shri Deneshan P, Asst. Professor of Physics, Govt Brennen College was a highly successful and enriching event. It not only provided valuable career guidance and inspiration to current students but also strengthened the alumni network, creating opportunities for future collaborations and mentorship. The event reinforced the department’s commitment to supporting its students and fostering connections with its graduates.

The felicitation ceremony for the toppers of the Physics Department at Payyanur College on 6/9/2024 was a highly successful event that celebrated academic excellence and motivated the entire student body. The event not only honored the exceptional achievements of the students but also reinforced the department’s commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and support. The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Smt. N Lavanya, followed by the presidential address of the Head of the Department Dr. Prakash V. The Chief guest , Alumni of Physics Department Shri Deneshan P, Asst. Professor, Govt Brennen College was honored by the College Principal Dr. V M Santhosh. Our Toppers Athira A , First position, Kannur University for M Sc Physics and Sreya Niranjana S, B Sc Phyics Topper was felicitated by our Guest. The toppers shared their experiences and insights about their academic journey, offering advice and motivation to their peers. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vinodkumar T.

Teachers' Day is celebrated to honor the contributions of teachers and educators who play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of students. In recognition of this special occasion, the Physics Departments at Payyanur College organized a vibrant celebration . The students of the Department handled classes for UG Classes. About 10 students from PG and final year PG classes handled the sessions. It was then followed by various cultural programmes and games for teachers.

Freshers' Day is a key event in the academic calendar that  welcomes incoming students to the college community. Held on 21/08/2024, this year’s Freshers' Day was a vibrant and memorable occasion aimed at integrating new students into college life and fostering a sense of belonging. The event beagn with Welcome Addresses by all the Faculties of the Department followed by various cultural programmes and ice breaking sessions.

The Farewell Party for the graduating Physics students was a poignant and celebratory event, marking the conclusion of their academic journey and their transition to the next chapter of their lives. Held on 16/05/2024, this event honored the achievements of the outgoing students and provided an opportunity for faculty, staff, and peers to bid them a fond farewell. The outgoing students shared their experiences during Their college life in the Function.

he ASTRA Physics Exhibition is an annual event designed as a part of Science Day Celebration to showcase innovative projects, experiments, and research conducted by students and faculty in the field of physics. Held on 04/03/2024, this year’s exhibition highlighted the dynamic and engaging nature of physics through a range of exhibits and interactive displays. The Fest was inaugurated by the Principal in charge Dr. A C Sreehari, and Dr P R Swaran, IQAC Coordinator felicitated the function. More than 500 students from our College and nearby Schools visited our Stall and gave the feedback.

Dr. T K Prasad, Asso. Professor, Dept of Geography, SAT Campus delivered a talk on " Science and Facts" on 10.11.2023 in association with Sastra Sahithya Parishath. Dr. Prakash V ,HoD of Physics delivered Welcome Address andd gave presidential remarks. Dr. P R Swaran , IQAC Coordinator did felicitation to the program.Dr. Manoj Kumar N delivered Vote of Thanks.

Department of PG Studies & Research in Physics celebrated teachers’ day on 05.09.2023 with title ‘Waves of Wisdom’. As part of the program, many PG and UG students were took the role of teachers and actively participated in teaching learning activities for the whole day. All the teachers were actively participated as enthusiastic students. The teachers learned many things from their own student teachers and appreciated them. The students were given memento as a token of appreciation.

A facilitation program for the meritorious students of UG 2020-23 batch Physics students was held on 21.06.2023 Wednesday at 2.00 PM.  The Head of the Department welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest of the program Dr. Sreejith O. V., Post Doctoral Fellow, Oxford University, UK. The gathering included teachers of the Department, Research Scholars, Students of 2020-23 batch UG Physics and 2021-24 batch UG Physics. The chief guest interacted with the students for about 1.00 hr. on ‘success formula after under graduation’

Department of PG Studies & Research in Physics in association with IQAC Payyanur College conducted a poster design competition on 05.06.2023 to the students of Payyanur college on account of world environment day. The focal theme of poster design was ‘solutions to plastic pollution’ which is the theme for the world environment day 2023. A total of 10 students from various disciplines participated in the program. The posters from Ms. Thanooja T., III B Sc Chemistry is identified as the best and Ms. Fathimathul Nisa from III B A Economics as next to best. The identified best 2 posters have been awarded with certificate, memento and cash prize.

The Department of PG Studies & Research in Physics, Payyanur College organised a Research Methodology Workshop on 30.05.2023, Tuesday at the Department of PG Studies & Research in Physics, Payyanur College in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Research Committee of Payyanur College.  The workshop was held online and Dr. Anish Kumar Warrier, Associate Professor of Geology, Department of Civil Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal - 576104, Karnataka, India, was the resource person. His online existence and sharing of research ideas during the occasion made the event successful. The talk delivered on ‘Manuscript Preparation and Presentation’ has certainly motivated the participants.  A total of 50 participants were there for the program, including teachers, research scholars and students

Kerala State Young Scientist award winner and alumnus, Dr. Ambili KM as felicitated by Dr. V.M Santhosh, the Principal Payyanur College, in a programme conducted by Department of Physics in association with IQAC, on 24.4.23 at the seminar hall. She is working as a Space scientist at VSSC, Trivandrum

The Astronomy club, Department of Physics conducted a night sky watch in association with IIST, Trivandrum & Astro, Payyanur on 25 & 26 March 2023 for all students and faculties of Payyanur College. Dr. Sarita Vig from IIST, Trivandrum, handled sessions and explained the stars and constellations during sky watch.

Shastra Sahithya Parishat, Payyanur cell along with the department of Physics organized a talk on Astronomy and Astrology on 24/03/2023 at 2.30 pm. T K Devarajan, Editor, Shastrakeralam delivered the talk which was intended to inculcate scientific temper and inquisitiveness among students.

As part of the National Science Day celebration on February 28, the department of Physics organized a science exhibition “Tharangam 2023” which was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. V. M. Santhosh. Many exhibits and experiments were showcased to inculcate scientific temper and inquisitiveness among students. Equation wall, illusion room, craft exhibits made from waste materials, games and food-court were the few attractions of the event. Students and teachers from nearby schools visited the exhibition.

The Department of Physics, in association with the Astroclub of the college& AstroPayyanur, organized SKY WATCHING CAMP at Astro Payyanur for 3^rd BSc  Students on 17/02/2023 under the guidance of Mr Pavoor Narayanan.

Department of Physics conducted a talk on career guidance, LIGHT TO A BRIGHT CAREER, on 11.02.23. Future opportunities for graduates were discussed in detail and many insights about the job market have been discussed by the guest of the honour, Mr. Deepu Thomas, Asst Professor, Dept of Physics, Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba. Students actively participated and discussed the issues related to higher education and Job.

The Physics department laboratory was visited by students of Edanad UP school as a part of the EXTENSION ACTIVITY – BRIGHT HORIZON. The budding knowledge seekers were familiarized with different concepts of physics. Various engaging and thought-provoking games were arranged. the winners are recognized with exciting prizes.

Department of Physics conducted a debate related to 'No to drugs Campaign ' of   govt on 15.12.22 at 10.30 am among final year students. Four teachers from the department interacted with them. Students actively participated and discussed the issues related to narcotics usage

Department of Physics conducted a photography contest called Freedom Photo Contest in association with IQAC, on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav for all students in the college. More than 60 photos were submitted for the competition and best two images were being selected. Dr Sreejith was the judge for the competition

The Department of Physics felicitated the toppers of university examination (UG &PG) and CUSAT MSc entrance examination on 11/08/22. The chief guest Dr. K.V. Devadasan, Rtd. HOD of Physics, MG College Iritty interacted with the students and distributed the cash award.

Late Prof. K.T. Kunhikrishnan Nair, Former HOD, Department of Chemistry, Payyanur College, memorial was done by Dr. K V Devadas, Rtd Prof. Physics Department, MG College, Iritty on 11-08-2022 at the seminar hall, Payyanur College. The chief guest of the program Sri. V P Balagangadaran, Retd Scientist, ISRO, Trivandrum, delivered a talk on “A journey Through Indian Space Science”.
