AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV ACTIVITIES: POSTER EXHIBITION AND SPEECH COMPETITION

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav towards the celebration and commemoration of 76 years of independence, Maths Club in association with the dept. of Mathematics and IQAC, Payyanur College organized a poster exhibition and a speech competition on 14 August 2023.

The Poster exhibition named “A journey through Indian Mathematics” was inaugurated at 12.30 pm by Kumari. Ameesha Rameshan, a III DC Mathematics student who was selected through a lucky draw. The exhibition successfully portrayed the vast and inspiring legacy of Indian Mathematics.

At 2.00 pm the speech competition was started with the explanation of rules and regulations by Sri.Suresh E V(Asst Professor,Mathematics). The topic of the competition was ” Indian Mathematics” and students from various departments were participated enthusiastically. Each and everyone emphasised the immense contributions of Indian Mathematicians to the field of Mathematics. The winners of the competition was announced by the judges Mrs.Reshma E (Asst Professor, Mathematics) and Dr.Aradhana N (Asst Professor Chemistry). I DC Economics student Keerthana P got the 1st place and I DC Physics student Harikrishnan V was on the 2nd place. The program officially ended with the vote of thanks given by Kumari. The program was remarkably successful that it celebrated the greatness of Mathematics, the base of all things around us, yet again on this special occassion of Indian Independence.


FELICITATION TO UG & PG TOPPERS , A+ HOLDERS & INSTITUTION OF SCHOLARSHIP BY DR P C SREENIVAS

On 11 August 2023, Dept. Of Mathematics hosted a felicitation program to honor the outstanding performance of its UG and PG Merit holders and handling over of scholarship fund by Dr P C Sreenivas (former Principal, Payyanur College) to Principal Dr Santhosh V M. The event was held in the college seminar hall at 2.00 pm. The program commenced with the welcome speech of Sri. Suresh E V (Asst Professor, Mathematics) followed by the presidential address of Mrs Shabna C T ( HoD & Asst Professor, Mathematics).

The scholarship fund Rs. 100100/-  was handed over to Dr V M Santhosh ( Principal, Payyanur College) by the chief guest Dr P C Sreenivas (Former Principal, Payyanur College) and they signed an IQAC collaboration between Payyanur College and Gurudev Arts & Science College,Mathil which is aimed to enhance and ensure a better collaboration between Higher Educational Institutions and eradicate the communication gap with frequent evaluation & feedbacks from the stakeholders.

 The principal expressed his pride and happiness in the achievements of the students and emphasized the value of hard work, determination, and perseverance in achieving success. Kannur University B.Sc Mathematics topper Didina T C V & M.Sc Mathematics topper Dhanasree K V were then felicitated with cash prize and mementos. Mementos were given as a token of appreciation for UG A+ holders and PG O holders for their hard work and dedication. The chief guest of the event, Dr P C Sreenivas (Former Principal, Payyanur College) addressed the gathering and congratulated the students for their achievements.

Felicitation was given by Dr Swaran P R ( IQAC Co-ordinator), Sri. Nisanth A ( HoD & Associate Professor,Statistics), Dr Subha P V (PTA Secretary), Sri. K V Sreekanth (Jr. Superintendent) & Achalnath M T (Fine Arts Secretary, College Union). The toppers replied the address and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs Reshma E (Asst Professor, Mathematics) who offered thanks to each and every individual who had contributed to the success of the program.

The felicitation program was a great success, and it was a proud moment for everyone associated with Payyanur College. The event served as a source of inspiration for the students and motivated them to achieve  all their desires.


International Women’s day Celebration
Department of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur celebrated International women’s day on 8th March 2023.The celebration began at 1.30 pm. Reshma E (HOD &Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur) invited Suresh E V(Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur ) for the talk on ‘HYPATIA OF ALEXANDRIA-THE FIRST WOMAN MATHEMATICIAN’. He shared some interesting details about the first woman mathematician whose thoughts were revolutionary. He explained the most notable contributions of Hypatia to astronomy and Science which include the charting of celestial bodies and invention of hydrometer etc. After the talk, screening of 2009 historic movie ‘AGORA’ directed by Alejandro Amenabar took place at the college seminar hall. Students and teachers from various departments attended the programme.

National Science Day -2023
As a part of national Science day celebration department of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur organized a ‘Shape Hunt ‘competition on 28th February 2023. Seven groups (3 students in each group) from different departments of the college participated in the program. Reshma E (HoD and Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur) flagged off the ‘Shape Hunt ‘Competition. In the competition the teams were given list of clues which had riddles to solve and then find the place. The clues were placed on different places in the campus. It was a great experience for the students. In the competition team -Political Science won the first position and the team -Chemistry secured the second position. Reshma E( HOD and Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur )distributed prizes to the winners.

Workshop on ‘Research Methodology’

The Department of Mathematics had organized a workshop on ‘RESEARCH METHODOLOGY ‘on 10 March 2022. Dr K T Ravindran, former principal of Payyanur College steered the programme. 116 students attended the programme. The resource person talked about his struggle regarding his career and motivated students to do more hard work.It was a different experience for the students.

One day Seminar on THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY’

On 22 December 2022, a One-Day workshop on ‘RAMANUJAN: THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY’ was organized by the Department of Mathematics honoring the birth anniversary of mathematical genius “Srinivasan Ramanujan”. Sri. Unnikrishnan M V (HST Mathematics, GHS Kuttiyeri) was the resource person of the programme. The resource person was given information about life and Contributions of Sreenivasa Ramanujan. It was a great experience for the students.

Department of Mathematics Payyanur college, Payyanur Conducted a debate as a part of Anti drug Program on 16 December 2022 at First Year Classroom.Abhiram K and Parvana V K ( First Year Students) Moderated the program under the supervision of Suresh E V ( Assistant Professor Mathematics).It was very much informative for the students and also create awareness among each and everyone.

Mathematics Exhibition

Our department in association with Maths Club organized a Mathematics exhibition “MATH MAGIC” on 21 and 22 of December, 2022. The exhibition was conducted over two days and had a number of students and teachers participating and collaborating hand in hand to make the event successful. This exhibition was open to students from other schools. The schools were given invitation passes to visit. The event started at 10 am and continued till 4 pm. Students presented different types of models which were related to Mathematics. Our Honorable Chief Guest along with the Principal surveyed the entire exhibition and also took details from the respective students about each of their models. The students at the exhibition also thoroughly enjoyed the event. The principal also gave a motivational speech and admired students for their efforts and interest. The staffs and students of Mathematics department thanked everyone for coming to the exhibition and becoming a part of the event.

Two day Latex workshop
Department of Mathematics Payyanur College, Payyanur in association with department of Mathematics, Co-operative Arts and Science College, Madai conducted a two day workshop on LATEX as a part of the certificate course 2022-23 on 6 and 7 December 2022.The workshop aimed to develop a basic understanding of the high-quality typesetting system for document preparation and give practical experience about writing a scientific report using Latex to make it user friendly. The aim was to provide hands-on practice to the third year Mathematics students from both the colleges. More than fifty students took advantage of this workshop. There were several question-answer sessions with faculty members and students on both days that made the workshop more interactive. Dr Shijina V(HOD &Assistant professor of Mathematics, Co-operative Arts and Science College, Madai) Steered the workshop. Reshma E(HOD& Assistant professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur )Shabna C T(Assistant professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur ), Suresh E V(Assistant professor of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur ) Sruthi Chundakaran V(Assistant professor of Mathematics, Co-operative Arts and Science College, Madai ) coordinated the programme.

Payyanur College in association with Cooperative Arts & Science College, Madai conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Group Theory’ . Jijina. K (Assistant Professor, Mathematics Department, Payyannur College, Payyannur) welcomed the gathering. Shabna CT (Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur) chaired the session. Payyanur College Principal Professor. Dr Santhosh VM inaugurated the event. College IQAC Member Dr Vinod Kumar TV and PTA Secretary Mr Dileepan KM extended their greetings. Aswathi K (Assistant Professor, Mathematics Department, Payyanur College, Payyanur) proposed vote of thanks. Dr Minirani (Associate Professor, NMIMS University Mumbai)and Dr Shijina V (Assistant Professor & HoD of Mathematics, Cooperative Arts & Science college, Madai) handled the classes.

Teacher’s day celebrations

Payyanur College Department of Mathematics organized a program ‘Snehapoorvvam Gurunathark’ on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on 5th September. The department organized a home visit of the former teachers Prof. KA Marykutty, Prof. TM Vasantakumari, Dr KT Ravindran, Mr. Vinod Kumar Paula, Dr Srinivas PC, Mr. K. Krishnakumar and Prof. Sarada AK(Statistics Department).The teachers of Mathematics Department Ms Reshma E, Ms Shabna CT, Ms Jijina K,Ms Aswathi K and Ms Neetu Manoj K participated in the program. The former teachers shared their memories which became a new experience for all.

FOCUS 2022-23
Department of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur in collaboration with Department of Mathematics, Co-operative Arts and Science College, Madai organized the inauguration of FOCUS 2022-23(-Future Opportunities Career and Ultimate Success) on September 05 -2022 between 7 pm to 9 pm through google meet platform. The program started with the welcome address from Dr. Shijina V(Assistant Professor and HOD of Department of Mathematics, Co-operative Arts and Science College Madai).Smt. Reshma E (Assistant professor &HOD of Mathematics, Payyanur college,Payyanur) was presided over the function. The chief guest Dr. Minirani S (Associate Professor of Mathematics, MPSTME, NMIMS (Deemed to be University), Mumbai) delivered a wonderful inaugural address. Prof (Dr) Santhosh. V. M. (principal, Payyanur college, Payyanur), Dr Rajasree K(IQAC Coordinator, CAS College, Madai) rendered felicitations. Later the resource person explained about the importance of problem solving skill in competitive examinations. We received good response from our students. The resource person thanked the organizers for arranging the live session.At the end of the meeting Smt. Shabna CT (Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Payyanur College, Payyanur) delivered the vote of thanks. She thanked the resource person, faculty members, participants and other officials for their active support for making the program a successful one.

Quiz Competition

The department of Mathematics conducted a quiz competition on Indian Mathematics on 16/08/2022 at seminar hall. The programme started at 10:30am. Students from various department participated among which team from department of Mathematics got first prize.
