POLITICAL SCIENCE

The Department of Political Science of Payyanur College (now affiliated to Kannur University) came into existence in the year 1982. The Department is currently offering B.A Political Science Program. Prof. P K Vasantha (late) was the founder head of the Department. Subsequently the department was headed by Dr. V.V. Kunhambu, Prof. P.C. Premavally and Prof. T.J. Mariamma. The current head of the department is Dr. Dinesan D A. At present there are 4 teaching staffs and 150 UG students in the Department.

From the beginning onwards, the department has made enormous achievement in the academic level and almost all university toppers are product of the department. In cultural, political and sports activities also, the students of the Department have proved their talents. The broad goals of the department are to promote excellence in political science and cultivate genuine interest in research among the students. The department is also working for nurturing consciousness about human rights, environment, gender, civic consciousness, democratic values and critical thinking among students to make them active citizens.
